Amaechi had an eight-year stint in the NBA |
Ex-NBA player and England international John Amaechi has joined the executive board of England Basketball. The Briton's career in the NBA spanned 294 games with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Orlando Magic and Utah Jazz.
Amaechi, who left the league in January 2004, has often criticised the organisation of basketball in the UK.
But he said he was "delighted to be in a position to make a direct contribution to the revitalisation and growth of basketball in this country".
Amaechi, 34, established the Amaechi Basketball Centre in his home city of Manchester in 2002 and has also played for the Manchester Magic since quitting the NBA.
In 2004, he was appointed an ambassador for the London 2012 Olympic bid.
