Barry Bonds moved another step closer to Hank Aaron's major league record by belting career home run number 742. The San Franscisco star's eighth homer of the season in a 5-4 loss to Arizona means he now needs 14 more to surpass MLB legend Aaron's all-time mark.
The Diamondbacks walked Bonds three times in the series opener on Friday but changed tactics on Saturday.
They went after him in the first inning but Bonds hammered a pitch from Edgar Gonzalez 428ft into right-centre field.
Bonds' home-run heroics have been tainted by accusations of steroid use, but the Giants slugger has denied ever knowingly used performance-enhancing drugs.
Japanese pitcher Kei Igawa replaced injured starter Jeff Karstens in the first inning to lead the New York Yankees to a 3-1 win over Boston, snapping their seven-game losing streak.
