English pair win Singapore Open

Nathan Robertson and Anthony Clark
Unseeded Robertson and Clark shocked the top seeds to win the final

Nathan Robertson and Anthony Clark shocked Olympic and world champions Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan in the doubles final of the Singapore Open.

Unseeded English national champions Robertson and Clark recorded a stunning 21-12, 21-11 victory over the number one ranked Indonesian duo.

"They're the best in the world on their day and to win to 12 and 11 is quite incredible," said Robertson.

Their efforts this week are guaranteed to boost their world ranking of 19th.

"We just played our best game," added Robertson.

"It was close to perfect as I think we made just two errors in the whole match. I don't think anyone will underestimate us any more after this. It feels fantastic."

Robertson and Clark, both from the East Midlands, had beaten Taiwan's world No 21 pair Chen Hung Ling and Lin Yu Lang 21-19 21-19 to move into the final.

It was the fifth Super Series tournament of the year, with the event moving to Jakarta next week.

Elsewhere Bao Chunlai of China won the men's singles final in a hard-fought match against Thailand's Boonsak Ponsana, 21-19, 16-21, 21-15.
