Sanchez celebrates the New York Jets victory at Foxborough
The New York Jets caused an upset as they beat top seeds New England Patriots 28-21 to progress in the AFC Championship on Sunday.
Mark Sanchez made three crucial touchdown passes while 2009 Super Bowl winner Santonio Holmes made a leaping touchdown catch to help win the game.
The Jets will now face Pittsburgh Steelers who fought back to defeat Baltimore Ravens 31-24 on Saturday.
The Chicago Bears will meet Green Bay Packers in the NFC title game.
The Bears beat Seattle Seahawks 35-24 on Sunday, with Jay Cutler throwing for two touchdowns and running for two more.
On Saturday, Green Bay hammered top seeds Atlanta Falcons 48-21, while the Steelers came back from a 21-7 half time deficit to beat the Ravens 31-24.
COMMENTATOR NEIL REYNOLDS' VIEW
The top seeds in each conference - the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons - were knocked out and their defeats centred on quarterback play.
New England's Tom Brady was constantly harassed by a smothering Jets defence and, as a result, he looked a shadow of the player who threw 36 touchdowns and just four interceptions in the regular season.
Matt Ryan made key mistakes for the Falcons and simply couldn't live with the outstanding display put forward by Green Bay's Aaron Rodgers, who has now thrown 10 touchdowns and just one interception in three playoff starts.
Saturday's weekend opener saw the Baltimore Ravens in control with a commanding 21-7 lead against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
But three turnovers in the third quarter was the Ravens' undoing, it handed all momentum to the Steelers and Baltimore could only muster 28 yards of offense after the break.
But as this roller coaster season races to a conclusion, just four teams remain. As they were my preseason pick to win it all, I'm not going to jump off the Packers' bandwagon just yet.

After overcoming the odds to beat the team with the league's best record during the regular season, Jets coach Rex Ryan said: "We believed we were the better team. I knew if we applied ourselves, we would beat them."
At the Georgia Dome, Aaron Rodgers threw for three touchdowns and ran for one as the sixth-seeded Packers scored their highest-ever points total in a post-season game to set up a meeting with Chicago.
"That's what you dream about," said Rodgers. "We have to go on the road again... this just feels so good right now, to be able to put up an offensive performance like that, it's just incredible."
For Chicago, Cutler showed no sign of nerves on his play-off debut, completing 15 of 28 passes for 274 yards, including touchdown passes to Greg Olsen and Kellen Davis, and running in touchdowns of six and nine yards.
"We started early and then got good rhythm going. It was fun. That first one was called, second one was kind of 'improv'," Culter said of the rushing touchdowns.
The Steelers have a second-half meltdown by the Ravens, and some clutch passes by Ben Roethlisberger, to thank for a 31-24 victory in a sloppy but compelling play-off match.
Trailing by 14 points at half-time, Pittsburgh recovered two fumbles and picked off a pass in the second half, while the Ravens also dropped several passes, including one in the end zone by Anquan Boldin that would have given Baltimore the lead late on.
Instead, Billy Cundiff's 24-yard field goal tied the scores, but Roethlisberger hit rookie Antonio Brown for 58 yards on third-and-19, leading to Rashard Mendenhall's two-yard run for the winning points with one minute 33 seconds remaining.
"I saw the young fella just take off, so I'm just going to throw it up for you," said Roethlisberger.
The win means the Steelers have reached the AFC championship game for the fifth time in 10 years.
