The Gladiators made the breakthrough in the third quarter

Colchester Gladiators got their season underway with a 14-0 victory over Bedfordshire Blue Raiders.

Two touchdowns from Alex Robinson sealed the points for the Essex side in the British American Football League Division Two South East match.

League newcomers Blue Raiders had held the Gladiators at bay until half-time, before the visitors took control.

Robinson broke the deadlock after some steady build-up play, then sealed the win with a 10-yard dash over the line.

The Gladiators will be looking to build on their promising start when they visit East Kent Mavericks on 27 April.
