Mixed martial arts brings together taekwondo, wrestling and boxing |
Two Gloucester fighters aim to impress on Saturday's mixed martial arts bill at Wembley Arena. Matt Ewin will face Ivan Salaverry on the main bill at middleweight, while Che Mills is to fight in a preliminary bout at welterweight. "It's one of the fastest growing sports in the country," coach Paul Sutherland told BBC Gloucestershire. "It's like a human chess match and the guys make a lot of sacrifices to get into the best shape of their lives." The fighters wear lightweight 4oz gloves and take on their opponents in an octagonal ring. The rules and regulations combine all the Olympic combat sports. Sutherland added: "It's a chance to see who is the best fighter and the best athlete. It takes a lot of dedication. With the preparation we've given them they both have a good chance of winning their fights."
