Ipswich Ladies have avoided automatic relegation from the English Hockey League Premier Division. With one game to go the Suffolk side are guaranteed to finish the season in the relegation play-off place after a 2-0 win over Poynton on Saturday. The victory ended a run of seven successive outdoor defeats. Ipswich will now play Reading, University of Birmingham and either Loughborough Students or Durham University in the play-offs. The tournament will be staged in Bristol over the weekend of 2-4 May with the top two teams securing a place in next season's Premier Division. Ipswich's men are still bottom of the National Conference East after a 6-1 defeat by Holcombe on Sunday.
