Jersey's Elizabeth Cann and Mariana Agathangelou have been named in England's 12-strong squad for the European Badminton Team Championships.

The Championships in Liverpool from 10 February are highly regarded, coming after only the Olympic Games and the World Championships in ranking.

The tournament will mark 20-year-old Agathangelou's fourth and 29-year-old Cann's 23rd England cap.

The England team are seeded second to the highly-rated Danish team.

England head coach Ian Wright said: "This is the start of a new cycle and we are trying to phase in some of the younger players. With home advantage in Liverpool, this is the perfect opportunity to do that."

Cann and Agathangelou have both shown good form of late with the latter winning the Bank of Scotland International and the Yonex Welsh Open with Scotland's Jillie Cooper late last year.

Cann will go to the European Championships in Liverpool as the reigning national champion.
