Jersey Rifle Association are hoping for success at Bisley Rifle Ranges from Friday in the 139th National Rifle Association's Imperial Meeting. Bisley, regarded as the Mecca of high power and long-range rifle shooting, has seen Jersey success in the past. The island produced the last two full-bore Under-21 champions, with Daniel Richardson currently holding the title. "Our objective is to ensure we are the top overseas team," said Jersey captain Bruce Horwood. "The Channel Islands are current European champions and Jersey has good record on the world stage," he added. The island has also won senior medals at World Championship events and gold at the 1990 Commonwealth Games through Colin Mallett, who was the last islander to stand on a podium at that level. Mallett will be among the 35-strong Jersey team, as will his father Cliff, with whom he won a bronze medal in the pairs shooting at the Auckland games in 1990. Focus will be on the prestigious Grand Aggregate and Her Majesty the Queen's Prize which will see a field of 1,400 competitors. In the team events Jersey will lock horns with rivals Guernsey as well as Australia, Canada, England, and 17 other countries from around the world.
