Teams ran in 117 tries on the first night of the annual competition |
The first night of the Ernst & Young Touch Summer League saw 117 tries and a record victory in Guernsey touch rugby - a 14-0 win for Source Sorcerers. Last year's runners-up in the mixed competition averaged a try every two minutes against Deloitte and Touch to top the Mixed 3 table. In the women-only group, 2007 runners-up Touchy Feely lead the way after a 9-0 win over Girls Aloud. Specsavers Stags beat TBC 4-0 to top Men's 1 after Wednesday's first round. In Men's 2, Clubhouse Casuals beat Bob's Cycleworld 6-2 to lead the table on try difference. There are 36 teams taking part in the 12-week league, with 18 mixed teams randomly drawn into three pools of six, two pools of six for the men's competition, and a six-team women-only league. The competition concludes with a finals night on 6 August. "It was a fantastic night and there were players of every level which was extremely encouraging," said Guernsey Touch chairman Andrew Hutton. "If the first night was any indication, there is no doubt it will be Guernsey Touch's best one yet."
