Russia are the women's world volleyball champions after becoming the first team in over 18 months to beat Brazil.

The Russians outlasted the South Americans in a final-set tie-break to take gold in Japan.

The 15-25, 25-23, 25-18, 20-25, 15-13 victory ended Brazil's hopes of taking a first world title.

It is the first time Russia have won the event, although the Soviet Union had previously dominated the sport, winning five times.
