Britain's Anna Hemmings is to switch disciplines after winning her fifth world canoe marathon title in France. The Surrey 29-year-old's event is not an Olympic class, so she is changing to sprint canoeing to try and qualify for the 2008 Games in Beijing.
Hemmings' latest triumph increased her medals tally in world and European championships to 10.
Three years ago she was hit by chronic fatigue syndrome but made a remarkable recovery and returned to training.
She said: "All my energy will now go into qualifying as a sprint canoeist for Beijing."
