Bryant is the reigning European champion

Karina Bryant won silver in the over 78kg category, narrowly missing out on the gold medal against Russia's Olympic bronze medallist Tea Donguzasvili.

And there were bronze medals for Simone Callender (+78kg), Sian Wilson (-78kg) and Sarah Clark (-63kg).

The two-day event, which was being held for the first time, is one of 12 Grand Prix-style events that feature on the European judo calendar.

Having led on scores throughout the contest, Bryant looked set for gold but, with seconds to go, she was thrown for ippon.

Callender's bronze had to be decided by the judges after there was no score in either regulation or golden score time in her bout with Cuban Ivis Duena Alonso.

Wilson, who was beaten in her semi-final by eventual gold medallist Vera Moskalyuk of Russia, outclassed Raquel Madrigal of Spain in the bronze medal match, throwing her for ippon after just 13 seconds.

Clark's bronze came after she beat Vera Koval of Russia with a holddown.

British Judo performance director Colin McIver said: "The results achieved over the weekend are our best results on the circuit so far this year, and show we are gaining strength as we head towards the European Championships in May."
