Tweddle had been hoping to bounce back from a disappointing Athens Olympics |
Beth Tweddle's bid to win double gold at this weekend's European Championships ended in heartache. The Briton had led Thursday's qualifiers in both her main apparatus, the uneven bars, and in her second event, the floor exercise.
But the 20-year-old suffered concussion when she fell from the bars in warm-up during Saturday's all-round event.
Tweddle went to hospital. X-rays showed no breaks, but she was forced out of Sunday's individual apparatus finals.
But there was some positive news for the British team in Debrecen.
Samantha Bayley finished eighth in Sunday's vault final after being awarded 8.650 for her routine.
Italy's Francesca Benolli took vault gold with 9.412.
Another member of the British team Ross Brewer finished 16th in a men's all-round competition that was won by Marinez Rafael of Spain.
