Darts giants prepare for showdown
Darts legend Bobby George gives his verdict on the long-awaited match between BDO world champion Andy "The Viking" Fordham and PDC nine-time world title winner Phil "The Power" Taylor.

ANDY FORDHAM

THE VIKING
British Darts Organisation champion Andy 'The Viking' Fordham
Age: 42
Born: London
Height: 6ft
Walk-on music: Right Said Fred's I'm too sexy
World championships: 1
Andy is a good player. Sometimes he is great but some days he ain't so clever.

He played well against Raymond van Barneveld in last year's Lakeside semi-final and performed well enough in the final to beat Mervyn King. He also did not do too badly at the World Masters.

As far as the darts averages, Andy managed to have a slightly higher average than Taylor in his world championship last season.

Of course, on the day statistics count for little.

Andy's had a bit of bad luck recently - he broke his wrist. I was talking to him the other day and he said, "I'm practising left-handed, but it's awkward when you're right handed."

But Andy does not really get excited about big matches. He just takes it in his stride.

It is just hype in the newspapers when he says he is going to do "this" and going to do "that". As long as he gets his bees and honey I think he will be happy

PHIL TAYLOR

THE POWER
Professional Darts Corporation champion Phil 'The Power' Taylor
Age: 44
Born: Stoke
Height: 5ft 8ins
Walk-on music: Snap's I've got the power
World championships: 11
Taylor is a great darts player, although as a bloke I do not like him.

He is nuts as far as practising is concerned. If you practice five or six hours a day you have to be barmy.

Practising could be made more interesting if they changed the colours of the dart board.

But you have to practise long hours - that is what being a darts player is about.

In my opinion, when he won the Embassy and BDO events he was world champion. No doubt about it.

But I do not think the PDC events are world championships - so in my mind whoever wins those events are not proper world champions.

VERDICT

I think Taylor will beat him, but I do not think Andy will be worried.
