Davies claims British crown
David Davies
Davies has been tipped to win an Olympic medal
David Davies swam within two seconds of his lifetime best in the 400m freestyle to win his first ASA long course crown.

Davies clocked 3:52.53 seconds - two seconds faster than his time at the world championships last year.

"That was the time I was looking for. This weekend is all about the last couple of swims before Athens," said the 19-year-old from Cardiff.

"I've got to work on getting out faster. That's what will be required in Athens."

Davies beat fellow Olympic qualifiers David Carry of Aberdeen (3:53.35), Nova's Adam Faulkner (3:55.45) and Stockport's Graeme Smith (3:55.52.) - Britain's last swimmer to win an Olympic medal.
