Davies has been tipped to win an Olympic medal |
David Davies swam within two seconds of his lifetime best in the 400m freestyle to win his first ASA long course crown. Davies clocked 3:52.53 seconds - two seconds faster than his time at the world championships last year.
"That was the time I was looking for. This weekend is all about the last couple of swims before Athens," said the 19-year-old from Cardiff.
"I've got to work on getting out faster. That's what will be required in Athens."
Davies beat fellow Olympic qualifiers David Carry of Aberdeen (3:53.35), Nova's Adam Faulkner (3:55.45) and Stockport's Graeme Smith (3:55.52.) - Britain's last swimmer to win an Olympic medal.
