Pugh takes historic gold
Rhian Pugh
Pugh is Britain's first ever medallist at the Championship
Newport's Rhian Pugh claimed somersaulting gold at the European Junior Apparatus finals in Amsterdam.

She entered the finals with the second highest score, but a superb display pushed Dariya Zgoba into silver.

The youngster's success made her the first ever British gymnast to secure a medal at the Championship.

"Rhian's triumph is testament to her unique talent and to the hard work she puts into her sport," said Wales' performance director Tracey Skirton.

There was more success for Wales at the British Championships in Birmingham, where Lizzie Bedoe, Francesca Grout and Jessica Hogg took the first three positions to claim the team gold.

"I am delighted with each and every performance this weekend," said Skirton.
