Mel Clewlow celebrates scoring Britain's first goal |
Great Britain's women's team blew a two-goal lead as they started their Olympic qualifying tournament with a 2-2 draw against hosts New Zealand. Britain, the top-ranked team in the event, raced into a two-goal lead through Mel Clewlow and Helen Grant.
But the Kiwis hit back with two goals of their own during the second half as Niniwa Roberts and Suzie Muirhead both netted from penalty corners.
Elsewhere Jenny Burke's first-half goal gave Ireland a 1-0 win over Ukraine.
Britain's coach Tricia Heberle was stunned by her team's draw and hoped the lost points would not cost them their place at the Olympics.

The top two in each group qualify automatically for the Games in August. Heberle said: "There are stronger words than 'disappointed' to describe how I feel. Extremely annoyed is probably closer to it.
"But you can't take anything away from New Zealand. They were tremendous in the second half, but we played poorly.
"Of course this is a disappointing result. We were ferocious in the first half and we dropped off in the second half so it was frustrating and disappointing.
"I hope the loss of two points will not come back to frustrate us later in the tournament."
Britain play their next qualifying match in the five-team pool against Germany on Sunday.
