Ben Ainslie claimed his third consecutive world title in the Finn class in Rio de Janeiro on Friday.
He tied up the title with one race of the nine race series still to sail.
"I am really glad to have made it a hat-trick," said the British sailor. "It is a great confidence booster in the run-up to the Olympic Games."
Ainslie has won a gold and silver in the Laser class at the Olympics and is looking for gold in the heavier Finn class in Athens this summer.
Since moving up to the Finn class he is unbeaten in a major regatta and has now won seven world and seven European championships in his career.
Ainslie, from Lymington, Hampshire, will sail in the Princess Sofia regatta in Spain next month and the French Olympic regatta at Hyres in April, before devoting two months to training for the Olympics.
