| Dudbridge wins World Masters Mark Dudbridge beat Tony West 7-4 to win the Winmau World Masters in Bridlington. The Bristol bricklayer only had 25 minutes to prepare himself after edging past former world champion Steve Beaton 6-5 in the semis. He won the first leg with a shot at double 20 but West, a 6-4 winner over Steve Coote in his semi, hit back to clinch the first set. West, who like Dudbridge has failed to qualify for the Embassy World Championship, also won the second set 2-1 with a shot at double top. But Dudbridge fought back to level the match at 2-2. In the fifth set he nailed double top twice to take the lead for the first time in the match and picked up the last set before the interval for a 4-2 lead. After the break Dudbridge continued on the front foot with another set under his belt, matched soon after by West. Dudbridge held his nerve to move within one set of victory but had to put the champagne on ice as West hit double eight and 10 to keep the match alive. But his comeback was shortlived as Dudbridge won both legs in the next set to claim victory. | Top Other Sports stories now: Links to more Other Sports stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
