Lloyd secured his place in the quarter-finals of the Skol World Championship with an epic 6-4 win over Warriner and will face either Richie Burnett or Denis Ovens. The man nicknamed 'Jaws' has dropped four places in the rankings since last year's tournament after a mediocre 12 months. A rejuvenated Cliff Lazarenko proved too strong in the first round of the World Matchplay in July, and Lloyd was eliminated before the second-round of the World Grand Prix in Dublin. However, the Essex thrower believes that he is coming good at exactly the right time. "Alan Warriner will be back - but it's all about me now," Lloyd said.
"The trouble is I've never really performed at a televised event. But if I do hit form then everybody look out - even Phil Taylor. "Phil knows what I'm capable of, he's played me in the open tournaments and knows all about me." And should the 27-year-old come up against Taylor, he claims he is not worried about the nine times champion's credentials. "If I can get the self belief in my own head and the confidence is there, I don't care who is next," he said. "Everything is a bonus now." | |
