Taylor targets 10th title
Phil Taylor gets set for the 2002 Skol World Championship
Taylor is favourite to regain his title
Phil Taylor admits he is under pressure to perform as sets his sights on a 10th world crown at the 2002 Skol World Championship.

Taylor, nicknamed 'The Power', opens up against debutant Paul Williams at the Circus Tavern in Purfleet, Essex on Saturday.

The 41-year-old will start as overwhelming favourite for the title, but insists he is taking nothing for granted.

I'm hungrier than I've ever been... no one will be in my way

"I practised a lot for this tournament and I'm really, really excited about it," he said.

"I am also a bit nervous which is good and I think it is going to be the best one ever, to be honest."

Taylor suffered a rare setback in October when losing to qualifier Kevin Painter in the first round of the World Grand Prix, which was won by Alan Warriner.

And he aims to use that defeat as a motivating factor in Purfleet.

"I'm hungrier than I've ever been, so all those players who feel I can be beaten are going to be shown I am out to win and no one will be in my way," he said.

"It's put more pressure on me. They are all good players or else they wouldn't be here."

"I have been doing loads of practice, three or four hours a day. I'm feeling good and I really feel it's going to be a very good tournament.

"Alan Warriner played very well in Ireland but it's going to be difficult for him. Everybody is after him now."

Warriner is expected to be one of Taylor's main challengers along with local favourite Rod Harrington, Steve Beaton, Peter Manley and Dennis Priestley.

"I'm hoping to kick on after my win in Ireland, the longer format will suit the better players so if I lose it is my own fault," said Warriner, who meets Reg Harding in the first round.

"Harding will be a tough customer as there is still fight in the old dog yet.

"He has been unlucky in the big tournaments, always drawing a top player in the first round, but I won't be relaxed at all."
