Bonds breaks own record
Barry Bonds connects with a pitch
Bonds has hit four home runs in his last three games
Barry Bonds has further extended his own Major League home-run record with his 73rd hit, two days after passing the mark previously held by Mark McGwire.

Bonds was playing in what could be his final game with the San Francisco Giants and wasted no time in making his mark.

He connected in the first inning off Los Angeles' Dennis Springer.

The homer helped the Giants to a 2-1 victory over the Dodgers.

"This was a great, great way to end it with a victory and a home run," said Bonds.

"You can't ask for anything better. I never thought I could do it."

Bonds broke McGwire's record by slugging two homers on Friday night and on Sunday he homered in his first at-bat after taking a day off on Saturday.

That made his four homers in Bonds' final three games of the season.

And home run number 73 also earned the left-hander yet another impressive record.

He finished the season with a slugging percentage of .863, surpassing Babe Ruth's previous record of .847 set in 1920.
