Henderson breaks Cobb's record
Rickey Henderson slides in to home plate surrounded by all his team-mates
Henderson is congratulated by all his team-mates
Rickey Henderson wrote himself into the history books when he became baseball's leading all-time run-scorer.

The San Diego Padres outfielder broke Ty Cobb's 73-year-old record when he homered in the bottom of the third inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers for his 2246th run.

Henderson hit Dodgers pitcher Luke Prokopec over the left-field fence to surpass Cobb's legendary record set back in 1928.

To honour the amazing feat, the 42-year-old was presented a plaque in the shape of home plate by fellow Padre Tony Gwynn.

The homer was Henderson 2998th career hit, leaving him two shy of becoming the 25th player to reach the 3000 milestone.

Earlier this year, Henderson became baseball's career walks leader with 2063, breaking Babe Ruth's record.

And he is also the sport's leader in stolen bases with 1395.
