![]() | Saturday, 21 July, 2001, 10:06 GMT 11:06 UK Montreal to stage showpiece ![]() Montreal beat Long Beach by a single vote The 11th Fina World Swimming Championships in 2005 will be held in Montreal, Canada. The announcement was made at a news conference on the eve of the swimming events at the ninth World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, by FINA President Mustafa Larfaoui. Montreal got the nod ahead of a strong bid from Long Beach, California. Its two other rivals were Rio de Janiero and Melbourne, which will be hosting the 2006 Commonwealth Games. Montreal got the nomination by just one vote, winning 11-10.
