![]() | Friday, 30 March, 2001, 03:15 GMT 04:15 UK Americans break another swim record ![]() Moses broke Russian Roman Sloudnov's record American swimming achieved its second world record in two days when Anthony Robinson broke the 50m breaststroke mark. Robinson clinched a time of 27.49 seconds in a time trial at the US National Swimming Championships on Thursday. The old record for the one-lap sprint was 27.61 set five years ago by Alex Dzhaburiya of Ukraine. A day before Ed Moses set a new world record in the 100m breaststroke. Moses, an Olympic silver medallist, broke the old record in the final of national championships. The 20-year-old's winning time of one minute 00.29 seconds eclipsed the world record of 1:00.36 set by Russia's Roman Sloudnov last year. It also broke Moses's own American record of 1:00.44 set at last year's Olympic trials.
"I came close this morning and tonight I felt really smooth. I knew I was close," added Moses, who will receive a $25,000 bonus for his record from USA Swimming. "Getting the record was a monkey off my back. Now I can go for the one-minute barrier."
