![]() | Thursday, 7 December, 2000, 14:43 GMT Hendry backs new tour ![]() Hendry is in support of the proposed new tour Stephen Hendry has voiced his support for plans for a new World Snooker Tour next season. The Sportsmasters Network (TSN) plans to initiate a world tour which will feature events in Dubai, Thailand, Malta and China. Under the plans announced on Wednesday the World Cup will be re-instated and prize money will be increased by 40%. TSN will carry out their plan without the traditional backing or funding from the tobacco industry. Time for change The seven-time former world champion said the game needs a new focus. "Everyone knows there has to be changes," said Hendry before flying out to play in the China Open. He added: "The circuit has become jaded because nothing has developed in the last five or six years.
Hendry continued: "The possibilities in this new tour - with new locations, new events and new sponsors - are genuinely exciting. "I know the majority of players would welcome such innovation, and this commercial approach is badly needed in snooker." | See also: Other top Other Sports stories: Links to top Other Sports stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||
