![]() | Thursday, 30 November, 2000, 18:00 GMT Tyson-Holyfield rematch on cards ![]() Holyfield takes on Tyson in 1997 Preliminary discussions have begun which could produce a third fight between WBA heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield and former champ Mike Tyson. Holyfield's lawyer, Jim Thomas, said he has had "informal discussions" with Tyson's promoter, Shelly Finkel, "just to confirm that Mike has an interest in fighting Evander. And he does," the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported on Thursday. Thomas said he plans to speak with Tyson representatives again this weekend in Las Vegas. Holyfield has beaten Tyson twice. In the second bout, in June 1997, in the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Tyson was disqualified after biting off part of Holyfield's right ear.
That assumes the 38-year-old Holyfield will beat John Ruiz in a rematch, probably in mid-February. Holyfield beat Ruiz this summer to win the vacant WBA title. China has been mentioned as a rematch site, but Thomas said no agreement has been reached. If one is not reached soon, the location likely would be Las Vegas. | See also: Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Other top Other Sports stories: Links to top Other Sports stories are at the foot of the page. | |||
