Cochrane only announced his decision to retire last week after a series of injuries but is absolutely delighted with his new position. "I needed a job and this is a brilliant one," he told the Racing Post. Dettori praised his current agent, Andrew Stringer, before explaining the reasons for forming the partnership with Cochrane. "Andrew has done a great job for me. We won the Dubai World Cup and had eight Group One winners together," Dettori said. Burning wreckage "But Ray and I go back a long way. He taught me a lot when I was a youngster at Luca Cumani's. Cochrane pulled Dettori from the burning wreckage of a plane which crashed at Newmarket racecourse in early June this year. The accident claimed the life of pilot Patrick Mackey, but it was confirmed earlier this week that Cochrane is to receive an award from the Royal Humane Society for his act of bravery.
