![]() | Sunday, 5 November, 2000, 19:32 GMT Longo sets hour world record ![]() Jeannie Longo cycled to silver in the Atlanta Games French cycling veteran Jeannie Longo has set a new one-hour world record after riding 44.767km. The 42-year-old Longo cycled 135 laps, each 333.33-metres, at the Mexican Olympic velodrome to beat the previous record of 43.5km set by Australian Anna Wilson on 18 October in Melbourne. Her latest effort meant the Atlanta Olympics road race champion bagged the record for the fifth time. Longo is one of the greats of women's cycling having won all of the sport's major prizes during an illustrious career. Her past achievements include winning the women's equivalent of the Tour de France.
