The home side edged ahead of Argentina at the top on sets after the South Americans edged Tunisia 3-2. In Pool B, Brazil maintained their 100% record although they were made to work hard by a plucky Italian side before eventually winning 3-2. Russia are second after ousting Australia 3-0, while the United States beat the Netherlands by the same score.
