Gergely Kiss was Hungary's hero once again

Centre forward Gergely Kiss was once again Hungary's hero, firing in the decisive goal with just over two minutes left on the clock.

It was Kiss' fourth goal of the final, while tournament top Aleksandar Sapic added another two goals to his tally.

Russia picked up the bronze medal after beating home favourites Greece 6-5.

Revaz Chomakhidze was Russia's star, scoring four goals in yet another tense game in the Aquatic Centre.

Hungary had been trailing 5-7 going in to the last quarter of the final, but a brace from Tamas Kasas put the defending champions on level terms.

Sapic, who topped the goalscoring charts with 18, had a chance for a dramatic equaliser for Serbia and Montenegro in the dying seconds after Kiss' goal, but he delayed his shot and ran out of time.

The victory meant Hungary become the first team to successfully defend the men's Olympic water polo title since the former Yugoslavia did it in 1984 and 1988.
