Canada are out of the women's water polo tournament after suffering a 5-4 defeat to Hungary. The Canadians, who claimed a shock win over the United States on Wednesday, did take an early 2-0 lead.
But they ran out of steam and missed 20 shots on goal while Mercedes Stieber scored twice to lead Hungary into the last eight.
"We gave it all our heart, we gave everything we could give in Athens," said emotional Canada coach Ann Dow.
"We won by one point and we lost by one point in two very close games, we didn't play badly."
Meanwhile the United States sealed top spot in group B, and an automatic place in the semi-finals thanks to an 8-4 victory over Russia.
Australia came top of group A after coming from 7-4 down to draw 7-7 with Greece.
Russia finished second in group B and will take on Greece in the last eight while third-placed Hungary will now face Italy who defeated Kazakhstan 8-6.
Kazakhstan and Canada, who both finished bottom of their respective groups, will play-off for seventh place.
