Singleton is pinned by Japan's Yuki Yokosawa

The 26-year-old from Ascot, who beat North Korea's Sang Sim Ri to give herself a medal chance, lost by a yuko to Belgium's Ilse Heylen.

Earlier in the day, Singleton was knocked out of the main draw by Japan's Yuki Yokosawa in the third round.

Singleton conceded a shido penalty and then succumbed to an ippon hold.

Yokosawa, the world bronze medallist, used the osaekomi technique, pinning Singleton for 25 seconds.

But Singleton was unhappy with the tactics used by Heylen in their encounter.

"I was basically robbed," she claimed. "Heylen didn't attaack once and if you don't attack, you are supposed to get penalised.

"But it looked good enough and the referees didn't do anything.

"Because I am so hyper and challenging all of the time, my opponents just try to clamp me down and stop me moving. They don't even want to fight me.

"They just want to hold me at a distance so I just end up doing bad attacks," she said.

In the second round, Singleton, the former European champion, beat Angela Flor Velazquez from Venezuela and in her opening bout she edged past Brazil's Fabiane Hukuda.

The Briton was in control for much of the encounter with Velazquez although she could not produce an incisive winning move, her pressure forced her opponent to twice concede shido penalties.

Against Hukuda, Singleton moved ahead with a koka - worth three points as opposed to the match-winning 10 of an ippon - before applying the same osaekomi technique employed by Yokosawa.
