Bulgarian Jordan Jovtchev's appeal against the result of the men's rings final has been rejected. Jovtchev complained the scoring was incorrect after missing out on gold by just 0.012 of a point on Sunday.
But Gymnastics' governing body, FIG, say it is not allowed to query another competitor's score.
"They said my score is right but we can't appeal about the score of somebody else even if his score wasn't right," said Jovtchev.
In the final, Greece's Dimosthenis Tampakos was awarded the gold medal, while Jovtchev had to settle for silver.
Bulgaria team spokeswoman Zdravka Jordanova said that Tampakos had been credited with too high a degree of difficulty for his routine.
Gymnasts and observers from other countries were also surprised that Tampakos had been favoured over Jovtchev.
