Khorkina did not get the hat-trick she was looking for |
Svetlana Khorkina's 20-year gymnastic career came to a disappointing end on Sunday when she finished last in the final of the women's uneven bars. The Russian was bidding to become the first gymnast to lay sole claim to gold on the same apparatus in three consecutive Games..
But she lost her grip on a move on the upper bar and dropped to the mat and received an 8.925, putting her eighth.
Emilie Lepennec of France won gold. The US's Terin Humphrey and Courtney Kupets took silver and bronze respectively.
Khorkina did not stay to watch the medal ceremony, storming off after receiving her 8.925 score from the judges, without watching the final competitor, American Terin Humphrey.
The five-time world champion complained about judges' scoring after finishing as runner-up to American Carly Patterson for Olympic all-around gold earlier in the week.
