Romanian gymnast Monica Rosu lept her way to the gold medal in the women's vault exercise on Sunday. The 17-year-old's intricate twisting combination was rewarded with a total score of 9.656.
America's Annia Hatch, who recorded 9.481, took silver while Anna Pavlova of Russia took the bronze with 9.475.
Russian Elena Zamolodchikova, who had been hoping to defend the title she won in Sydney, paid the price for a hopped landing and finished fourth with 9.412.
