Kyle Shewfelt handed Canada their inaugural gymnastics gold when he won the men's floor event in the first of Sunday's individual apparatus finals. Marian Dragulescu of Romania secured the silver medal and Jordan Jovtchev of Bulgaria claimed the bronze.
American Paul Hamm, winner of the men's all-round event on Wednesday, had started the event as favourite.
But a stumbled landing on his final tumbling combination ended his hopes and he finished down in fifth place.
Hamm produced an edgy routine as the pressure of events following on from his midweek success clearly told.
On Saturday it emerged he had been incorrectly awarded the all-round prize after a judging error robbed South Korea's Yang Tae-young, who ended up with the bronze, of the gold medal.
South Korea are now appealing against the result via the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Meanwhile, Spain's Gervasio Deferr was fourth and Japan's Daisuke Nakano and Isao Yoneda came sixth and seventh respectively.
Hamm's twin brother Morgan finished last of the eight gymnasts competing in the floor final.
