Australia's women's football team ended their 17-year losing run to USA, their 1-1 draw enough to earn them a quarter-final spot. Kristine Lilly scored in the 19th minute for the USA but Joanne Peters headed home eight minutes from time, ending a run dating back to 1987.
The Americans had already clinched a spot in the quarter-finals with 3-0 and 2-0 wins over Greece and Brazil.
But the win guarantees they will stay in Thessaloniki for their next game.
Australia would have advanced anyway because of Brazil's win over Greece.
Elsewhere, Sweden scored two goals in four minutes to defeat Nigeria 2-1 and book their place in the quarter-finals.
Trailing to Nigeria striker Mercy Akide's first-half strike, Sweden were facing an embarrassing early exit.
But Hanna Marklund and Malin Mostrom's goals earned them the victory which takes them through to face Australia.
China have been eliminated after being held to a 1-1 by Mexico, and they have been joined by Greece, who lost three times.
