Tomlinson has been agonisingly close to the 'A' qualifying mark |
Chris Tomlinson faces a nervous wait to discover if he has made the Great Britain team for the Olympics. The long jumper has not achieved the 'A' qualifying standard of 8.19m, but has jumped the 'B' mark of 8.05m.
Last year, Nathan Morgan jumped over 8.19m meaning the GB selectors will have to choose between the pair with a final announcement expected on Tuesday.
Tomlinson's last chance to make the 'A' mark came at Saturday's Madrid Grand Prix but he fell short by 20cm.
Sean Baldock also missed the Olympic standard in the men's 400m.
The 27-year-old was well short of the required time of 45.55 seconds, clocking 46.35 in Madrid.
Baldock aimed to stake his place for the final individual 400m spot as well as a place on the relay team.
The Belgrave Harrier could miss out on a place in the Olympic team to American-born athlete Malachi Davis.
The California-based athlete also failed to meet the 'A' standard in a meeting at Loughborough University on Saturday.
But he bettered Baldock's time, coming second to race-winner Matt Elias in a time of 46.30.
Former Loughborough student, Emeka Udechuku hit better form on familiar soil in the discus.
His throw of 64.93m was good enough to book his place on the British Olympic squad.
Meanwhile, Olympic medal hope Kelly Holmes suffered a shock defeat in Madrid. The world 800m silver medallist was outsprinted by Poland's Wioleta Janowska in the 1500m who won in a time of four minutes 4.38 seconds.
