Kuzenkova wins hammer gold
| | Russia's Olga Kuzenkova broke the Olympic record twice as she took gold in the women's hammer final. The European champion, who set a new mark of 73.71m in qualifying, beat it with a throw of 74.27m in the second round before improving to 75.02m. It was the fourth-longest throw in history for the 2000 silver medallist. Cuba's Yipsi Moreno took the silver with a throw of 73.76m, with fellow Cuban Yunaika Crawford grabbing the bronze with a personal-best 73.16m.
