World indoor and outdoor champion Perdita Felicien cruised into the final of the 100m hurdles with a comfortable win in the first semi. She will be joined there by USA's Joanna Hayes, although the strongly-fancied Brigitte Foster failed to start the second semi-final.
Felicien, favourite for gold, was in confident mood afterwards.
"It was an easy run," she said. "Anyone can come out here and win - but hopefully it will be me."
Gail Devers, one of the pre-competition favourites for gold, had crashed out in the first round.
The American suffered a calf injury as she left the blocks and pulled up before the first hurdle.
Britain's Sarah Claxton also failed to advance to the semi-finals.
