Britain's full Olympic line-up
Britain will hope to build on the 11 gold medals they snapped up in Sydney four years ago when the Games get under way on 13 August.

We list the contenders who will be part of Team GB in Athens.

ARCHERY

Britain have sent a trio of women to the Olympics - Alison Williamson, Helen Palmer and Naomi Folkard.

Laurence Godfrey will be the sole man on duty in Athens.

GB team:

Men's individual event: Laurence Godfrey.

ATHLETICS

American-born 400m runner Malachi Davis was one of the additional selections as Britain's athletics squad was finalised.

Darren Campbell was earlier given the go-ahead to run a sprint double, while Olympic champion Denise Lewis was picked to defend her title.

Paula Radcliffe looks to stand the best chance of a gold medal, in the marathon.

BADMINTON

Sydney bronze medallist Simon Archer failed to qualify in the mixed doubles, but Nathan Robertson and Gail Emms have a good chance of glory in the same event.

BOXING

Audley Harrison was Britain's only medal winner in the ring four years ago, taking gold in the super heavyweight category.

And the British team will only have one shot at gold this time around, 17-year-old Amir Khan fighting at lightweight.

CANOE/KAYAK

There will be high hopes following the two bronze medals from four years ago. Tim Brabants was third in K1 1000m in Sydney while Paul Ratcliffe won silver in the K1 canoe slalom.

CYCLING

Sydney gold medallist Jason Queally has been included in the squad but is unlikely to defend his kilometre time-trial title.

DIVING

Britain have a seven-strong diving squad and Leon Taylor and Peter Waterfield gave them the perfect start by claiming a silver medal in the synchronised 10m platform on the opening day of competition.

EQUESTRIAN

Pippa Funnell and Badminton winner William Fox-Pitt are the best medal prospects on the British three-day eventing team while Nick Skelton has overcome a serious neck injury to represent Britain in the showjumping.

Three-day eventing: Pippa Funnell, William Fox-Pitt, Leslie Law, Jeanette Brakewell and Mary King.
Dressage: Richard Davison, Carl Hester, Nicola McGiven and Emma Hindle.
Showjumping: Nick Skelton and Robert Smith.

FENCING

Britain will be represented by Richard Kruse and Louise Bond-Williams in Athens.

Kruse won foil gold at the European Olympic qualifying event in Belgium in April while Bond-Williams took silver in the sabre.

GYMNASTICS

Hopes rest with uneven bars specialist Beth Tweddle, who will attempt to win Britain's first gymnastics medal for 76 years.

Rhythmic gymnastics: Hannah McKibbin

HOCKEY

The women missed out on qualification for the Games, but the men made it and face Egypt, Germany, South Korea, Pakistan and Spain in the pool stages.

Coach Jason Lee has named a 16-man squad, with Teddington forward Rob Moore the surprise inclusion and penalty corner specialist Dave Mathews and forward Martin Jones the major omissions.

JUDO

Britain will send an eight-strong team to Athens, with Sydney silver medallist Kate Howey set for her fourth Olympic Games.

World silver medallist Craig Fallon missed out on a medal when he lost to Revazi Zintiridis of Greece in round two.

MODERN PENTATHLON

Britain have high hopes in this event. Georgina Harland has been world number one for much of the season while Kate Allenby won silver at the world individual championship.

ROWING

The main focus will be on Matthew Pinsent as he bids for a fourth consecutive Olympic gold.

He will compete in the men's coxless four alongside James Cracknell, Steve Williams and Ed Coode, who has replaced the injured Alex Partridge.

Kath Grainger and Cath Bishop will also be strong medal hopes in the women's pairs.

SAILING

There are four Olympic medallists from four years ago in Britain's 18-man sailing squad.

Ben Ainslie (Laser), Shirley Robertson (Europe) and Iain Percy (Finn) all took gold four years ago while Simon Hiscocks (49er) claimed silver in Sydney.

SHOOTING

Richard Faulds (double trap shotgun) and Ian Peel (Olympic trap) won gold and silver respectively in Sydney and will both be in Athens to defend their titles.

SWIMMING

Team GB's major Games absentee is Mark Foster but there are other serious medal contenders in the 36-strong squad, notably Mel Marshall, David Davies, Stephen Parry and Katy Sexton.

Sarah Stevenson will hope to go one better in Athens after just missing out on a bronze as a 17-year-old four years ago.

TENNIS

Tim Henman, who won an Olympic silver with Neil Broad in the men's doubles in Atlanta in 1996, will be Britain's sole representative in Athens.

TRIATHLON

Marc Jenkins was a late replacement for Paul Amey, who suffered a fractured pelvis in a bicycle crash.

Tim Don clinched his place in Athens by finishing fourth in the World Championships in Madeira in May and the pair will be joined by Andrew Johns.

Julie Dibbens earned a spot in the women's team by coming home eighth in Madeira. Joining her on the team are Michelle Dillon and Jodie Swallow.

WEIGHTLIFTING

Wales star Michaele Breeze is confident of taking on the East Europeans, insisting she will not be intimidated.

WRESTLING

Britain will have one representative in Athens, US-based Nate Ackerman, who will compete in the 74kg category.
