American swimming sensation Michael Phelps says he is not worried that the Olympic pool will not have a roof. The decision not to erect a cover over the main Games pool upset world governing body Fina, who said swimmers would be exposed to the hot sun.
But Phelps is not fazed by the row, insisting: "All I need is lane lines, water and other competitors."
Reigning Olympic 200m butterfly champion Misty Hyman added: "I love the heat, I love swimming outdoors."
She added: "I love swimming in the sunshine. I think it's actually an advantage for me.
"Sometimes I have trouble at an indoor pool because of asthma. So the more ventilation, the better."
South African Ryk Neethling, who lives in Arizona, said the weather will most likely affect Russian and the Scandinavian swimmers as well as athletes from southern hemisphere countries like Australia.
"I don't know how long their training camp will be, but they'll be coming from their winter," said the freestyle specialist.
