Britain's best for 80 years
Audley Harrison
Harrison ended the barren run in the boxing ring
Britain's tally of 11 gold medals at the Sydney Games is the nation's best Olympic haul for 80 years.

Not since Antwerp in 1920, when 14 golds were won, have they been so successful.

The Brits picked up two more golds on the final day of action Down Under.

Super-heavyweight Audley Harrison won a gruelling encounter with Kazakstan's Mukhtarkan Dildabekov to win Britain's first boxing gold since Chris Finnegan lifted the middleweight title in Mexico in 1968.

And there was also joy in the women's modern pentathlon, with Stephanie Cook producing a fantastic late burst to claim gold.

Fantastic

Cook trailed in eighth going into the cross country, the fifth and final discipline, but scorched past her rivals to take top spot.

She was followed home by team-mate Kate Allenby, who made it an event to savour for Team GB by winning bronze.

Most of Britain's gold medals have been won on the waters.

Sailing provided three Olympic champions while rowing, the men's coxless fours led by Steve Redgrave and the men's eight, added a further two.

On the athletics track, Denise Lewis was crowned Queen of the heptathlon while Jonathon Edwards finally ended his long wait for triple jump glory.

Jason Queally got Britain's first gold of the Games in the cycling, quickly followed by shooter Richard Faulds.

Britain's medal tally at the finish was 11 golds, 10 silvers and seven bronze.
