Britain's hopes of climbing the medals table at the Beijing Olympics have been boosted after a total of 44 medals were won in Olympic events in 2007. For the second year in succession, Team GB retained seventh place in the table.
And the haul, which came at world championships and equivalent competitions, was 14 more than the total won in 2006.
British Olympic Association chief executive Simon Clegg said: "2007 has been an encouraging year."

Clegg added: "The journey to 2012 is moving in the right direction. Although Beijing stands alone, it is also a stepping stone to 2012.
BOA chairman Lord Moynihan had special praise for the three sports in which Britain had achieved greatest success - cycling, rowing and sailing.
British cyclists won five titles in Olympic events, as well as three other medals, while rowing produced two gold and five bronze medals at the world championships and two gold and four bronze medals were won in sailing.
The BOA have yet to set a target for Beijing next year but are aiming for a fourth-placed finish in the medal table at London 2012.
