Great Britain's taekwondo team picked up eight medals at the Dutch Open, including a goal for Beijing Olympic hopeful Sarah Stevenson.

Stevenson, 24, beat Nina Solheim in the -72kg category final, while Louise Mair won gold in the -47kg final.

Michael Harvey and Adam Corrigan took silver, Davoud Etiminani and Aaron Cook bronze while Jordan Gayle and Bianca Walkden won gold at junior level.

GB performance director Gary Hall said: "This is the perfect start to 2008."

He added: "With the team in its current form I am hugely positive about the progress we have made and the potential to make an impact at the European Championship, which takes place in April.

"Although Beijing is the primary focus, we must take each tournament as it comes."

The team's successes are an increase of a gold and a silver medal compared to last year's results in the Netherlands.

The women's haul of three medals was enough for them to finish second in the medal's table.

"To finish second overall is an amazing achievement," said Stevenson.

"Especially when you consider that the winners Germany had 46 squad members whereas we had only 16, including five female members.

"I just hope that we can all carry this momentum forwards to the European Championships in April."

The GB taekwondo team have three berths at the Olympics and these will be allocated by 15 May.
