China dominate table tennis event

Men's world number one Wang Hao
China's Wang Hao felt the weight of expectation

China justified their favourites tag in the men's and women's categories of the team table tennis at the Olympics.

The men had a few anxious moments but won 3-0 in their best-of-five match against Greece on the first day.

"There was some pressure," said men's world number one Wang Hao. "We're on the home court so everyone wants us to get a good result."

The women looked more assured as they overcame Dominican Republic and Croatia by 3-0 in both matches.

They could now face Hong Kong or South Korea in the second round.

"I don't differentiate between strong and weak opponents. I play each game like it's a final," said Zhang Yining, who won gold in singles and doubles in Athens.

"If you're not prepared and ready for a challenge you'll find yourself in a bad situation."
