Davies (left) just gets edged out at the finish by Dyatchin
Britain's David Davies won the silver medal in the 10km race at the Open Water World Championships and with it qualified for this summer's Olympics.
Davies was narrowly beaten by Russia's Vladimir Dyatchin by only 0.3 seconds.
Australian world 1500m freestyle record holder Grant Hackett was disqualified and will miss the inaugural event in China but will defend his 1500m title.
Hackett is aiming to become the first male to win the same event at three successive Olympics.
Germany's Thomas Lurz took the bronze medal ahead of Maarten van der Weijden of the Netherlands.
Ky Hurst, an ironman triathlete who lost to Hackett in the Australian national championships in December last year, qualified for the Olympics after finishing joint fifth with Russia's Evgeny Drattsev.
