Modern pentathlete Sam Weale scored 37 additional Olympic ranking points by finishing 11th in round one of the 2008 World Cup series in Cairo. The 26-year-old from Somerset was Britain's sole representative in the event, which was eventually won by Lithuania's Andrejus Zadneprovskis.
"Weale gained seven places in the run and that was a very good performance," said GB performance director Jan Bartu.
"It's also a fantastic start to Sam's Olympic campaign this year."
